That's right, I'm moving to the Bay Area to work at the Point Reyes Coast Guard Station for 4 years where I'll be delivering and recording message traffic and providing voice communications services to over 13,000 Coast Guard men and women at 358 units from Alaska to the Middle East to the South Pacific. My departure date will be in mid-June and I'll be arriving around the beginning of July. In addition, I will be dragging my younger brother, Steven, along with me. I figure this is the best way for him to see the country, through the open road. So wish me luck and hopefully you'll be asking me in June, "How are things on the West Coast?"

On the 24th of February, Cully will reach the 11th year of his life. So here's your chance to say Happy Birthday and wish him well. Also, here's a short weird mix of metal, folk, hip-hop, and dance rock for him and the rest of you until I come back from New York on Monday. Enjoy!

Random Though #76 – We can make cars where you press a button and it turns on without making a sound, but we still can’t make a coffee grinder that doesn’t sound like there’s construction going on in the kitchen.

I’m not usually buying music DVDs left and right (although I used to). But recently I’ve come across a rash of freakin’ awesome music themed films that demonstrate genuine passion for music. One is Air Guitar Nation (see left); which is documentary about a bunch of charming lunatics who have dream to become the best “Air Guitarist.” The other was The Last Dispatch; which rekindled my love for the band Dispatch and their heartfelt tunes. So if you have a few hours to kill; rent or buy these movies. Both trailers to these film are in the Motion  section of this website.

Films like these don’t come around very often. I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie that spoke to me like my favorite record. Well, that is what the movie, Once has done for me. Set in Dublin, it's a boy-meets-girl love tale where both protagonists also happen to be musicians; as such, much of what they feel is expressed through the music they play and the songs they sing. The film is able to express honesty and genuine emotion through these wonderfully crafted characters. Both of the actors have had zero acting experience and both somehow do a better job than most high paid movie stars. I’ve always thought that musicians are almost always phenomenal actors when given the opportunity. Björk in Dancer in the Dark is a prime example. She even won a Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance. These people may not be trained in acting, but they know about expressing emotions better than anyone. Anyway, the film’s songs are so heartfelt and disarming that I found myself buying the record the day after seeing the film. Especially given my recent relationship situation, songs like When Your Mind’s Made Up, Falling Slowly, and Once have been on repeat on my mp3 player. For those interested, check out the film’s website or rent the movie when you get the chance; you won’t regret it.

Johnny Cash - I Still Miss Someone

At my door the leaves are falling
A cold wild wind has come
Sweethearts walk by together
And I still miss someone

I go out on a party
And look for a little fun
But I find a darkened corner
because I still miss someone

Oh, no I never got over those blues eyes
I see them every where
I miss those arms that held me
When all the love was there

I wonder if she's sorry
For leavin' what we'd begun
There's someone for me somewhere
And I still miss someone

<cassius_clay13> well he got really drunk and said he was gonna puke
<cassius_clay13> so i helped him walk to the toilet

<cassius_clay13> bryan is a rugby player... so a big guy
<cassius_clay13> so he fucking KICKS one of the stall doors open
<cassius_clay13> and there's this guy in there taking a shit
<emoti_conartist> hahahahahaha
<cassius_clay13> and bryan throws up ALL OVER HIM
<cassius_clay13> then (this is genius) bryan thinks 'oh shit... if i were taking a shit and someone came in and was sick all over me, i'd want to fuck him up... so i'd better hit him first'
<cassius_clay13> so he fucking SMACKS this guy in the face

Ah-oo-oo ....

it starts here now.
spread the love round, its not a story of when boy meets a girl, more like a story boy encounters world and its a peace song, friends may you live long. our days our numbered we must celebrate. I lived the best day of my life today

so come on

Hold on
So come on
hold on

stand on your own feet now _ scream your lungs out, its not the gravity that’s pulling you down, more like the demons living underground, may your light shine _ liberate minds, I favor tigers but I celebrate cowards _ don’t want a world where religion is power

so come on

Hold on
So come on
hold on

and I don’t know what to do, when I’m not here have faith in all you do _ and I hope you'll sing along, cos when it feels this right tell me how it can be wrong

Ah-oo-oo ....

savor POOR ME _ your home is where your happy, I want my freedom and i question your ways _ I built an army in a matter of days, please let me go _ search for your own halo, stand up be counted with the poor and the true _ those sat on fences .... Bigger me

smaller you
so come on

Hold on
So come on
Be strong
