 Oh boy! The Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco has added more artists to the line-up. Adding to the anticipation is Lupe Fiasco, The Black Keys, Stars, Jackie Greene, Kaki King, Liars, Nicole Atkins & The Sea and Culver City Dub Collective. These additions are exciting for me because I bought the full festival ticket. However, if you’re eying a certain day, single day ticket sales go on sale this THURSDAY, MAY 1st at 10AM PST. “But I don’t know what artist is playing which day!” Nonsense!  Coachella is happening as you read this and every other music blog is doing some sort of craziness to bring you the best of their line-up. But not me! I'm not going so I could careless (I will be watching dredg's and Portishead's broadcasted performance on the Coachella website though). But I know someone who is going, ex-Strata/Limousines lead singer Eric Victorino! Eric and his band mates recently had the privilege to open for dredg at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, which I believe was their debut performance. Eric was so kind as to answer the Kuestionnaire and tell us how frickin' excited he is about Coachella.

1. Of all the bands/artists in your CD/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?
radiohead and bright eyes.
2. What's in your record/CD player right now?
nova on a nocturn by the good life.
3. What song would you say sums you up?
it would be a depressing thing to be summed up by one song - i think my favorite song ever might be climbing up the walls by radiohead.
4. What's your favorite local band?
picture atlantic is my favorite unsigned bay area band, but dredg would be tops if they could still be considered local.
5. What was the last show you attended?
i'm going to coachella this week - last show i went to was my first show with my new band the limousines - but it was with dredg, and i watched them so i guess that counts as attendance.
6. What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
front row, leaning on the stage watching Bjork from a few feet away. amazing.
7. What's the worst band you've ever seen in concert?
that's not really a question i feel comfortable answering, i'd hate to see my name in someone's answer to this one so i'll skip it.
8. What show are you looking forward to?
death cab, cold war kids, prince, mgmt, so many great bands at coachella.
9. What is your favorite band shirt?
my flaming lips new years eve shirt - there's a purple girl with her ass in the air and an explosion of light bursting from her vagina. epic.
10. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
conor oberst or tim kasher.
11. Metal question - Jeans and Leather vs. Cracker Jack clothes?
i'm not sure what cracker jack clothes are but they sound more breathable so i'll swing that way.
12. Sabbath or solo Ozzy?
solo ozzy, just for sentimental reasons.
13. Commodores or solo Lionel Ritchie?
lionel ritchie man!
14. Punk rock, hip hop or heavy metal?
i think punk rock is the safe bet but there are punk bands that have nothing to do with the punk ethos, while there are hip hop artists out there that are way more punk rock than anyone - doing their own thing - thinking independently of the flock - that's what punk is.

i don't know if i am. i love music more than almost anything, but i really don't know shit. it's embarrassing.

2008-2018- there's so much going on, bands are becomming independent of the major label philosophy - i think it's going to be great to see what happens in the next ten years.
18. Any favorite music-related videos/DVDs you own?
the clash dvd is amazing.
19. Do you like Journey?
i try not to but i cant help it.
20. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
fight club score by the dust brothers. by far.

my own...

i prefer vinyl, in theory - but i have way more CDs than vinyl... %90 of the time i'm listening to my ipod.

Last week my mother and my younger brothers, Steve, 16, and Cully, 11, came up to Newburyport, MA to hang out with me. I figured the best place to spend some quality time was Plum Island, which is the nearest and nicest beach on the North Shore. This is how our afternoon went...

So when we arrived at the beach, my mother spotted this written in the sand,

Cully of course wrote "POOP" in the sand in giant letters nearby.
After talking with my mom and Steve about the roses and the message in the sand. Steve mentioned that if you write something in the sand and the ocean washes it away, it won't bother you anymore. So I said, "I'll do it if you guys do it."
So I wrote what was bothering me...

Cully just ended up playing the sand instead...I guess nothing bothers you when you're 11 years old.

In conclusion, I'm going to miss these monkeys while I'm in California. I think one of the best things to come out of my trip to the west coast is that they will be able to visit a place they've never been before and Cully can have his first plane ride, all 8 hours of it. Anyway, here's a few songs that I feel described my week with my family.

 I was lucky enough to finally attend a Cursive concert in all it's glory. After being a fan since high school, owning 3 of their records and missing every show whenever they come to my area; I had to go to this show. The show was at the tiny but intimate Club Hell in Providence, RI. My buddy and I attempted to kill time in Providence, but that place can be pretty boring when all you want is to see Cursive rock the fuck out. When we eventually strolled into the venue, we were able to catch a special little Providence band called, Deer Tick. I loved the Willie Nelson / Neil Young mixed with early Bright Eyes rawness vibe they had going for them. Granted they were an awesome band, Deer Tick kind of over stayed their welcome by 3-4 songs (plus they have an uncomfortable band name). Once Deer Tick finished, it didn't take long for Cursive to kick off the show. They actually started with a new tune, which was pretty badass. Actually, all the new songs oozed that Cursive-like anger and intensity that I've come to love since high school. I'd say they played about 5 new song and a few classics (Big Bang, The Martyr, Sierra, etc). Overall it was a great show. Even though I didn't get home until 2am. Ugh.

I know that the Dresden Dolls are going to be working the register at the Cambridge, MA, Newbury Comics and that Robby Roadsteamer is playing at the Nashua, NH, Newbury Comics. Also Björk will be screening the 3-D version of her new video for Wanderlust at a few select stores. Unfortunately I’m working today so I can’t attend any of these events. So in order to cheer myself up, I’m just going to play music on Hype Machine throughout the day. Yay!

-probably either "Forgotten Empire of dark Witchcraft" by Behemoth, or "The Art Of Parties" by Japan.
4. What's your favorite local band?
-Xasthur
5. What was the last show you attended?
-Chapin Sisters @ the echo. Which was more like a couple of friends' B-day gatherings at the Echo, and the Chapin Sisters' incidental soundtrack.
6. What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
-impossible call, but some contenders: ok, actually, currently everything's eclipsed by Enslaved at SxSW 2008.
7. What's the worst band you've ever seen in concert?
-impossible call. too many.
8. What show are you looking forward to?
-nothing on the books right now, but i would love to see in the near future: Portishead, Radiohead, the re-united 90s fave Gyromonkeyhead.

-sadly, no band shirts are currently in my fave shirt stable, as i'm real picky about shirts. but i have plans to order an amazing Deathspell Omega shirt very soon.

-a collection of all of Japan's videos; Enslaved, live in Bergen, Norway.

16. When did you realize you were a music geek?
- When I was in junior high / high school I would stay up late surfing allmusic.com and listening to my discman. I'd be making lists of bands related to bands I liked and then trying to find them on trips to the local Music Trader. On rare occasions, somebody's older brother or sister would drive my friends and I out to Lou's Records, which was (and probably still is) the best record store in San Diego. I spent a lot of $ on CD's. ha.
17. What was the greatest decade for music?
- probably 1965-1975 - does that count?
18. Any favorite music-related videos/DVDs you own?
- Neil Young Live In Berlin. It's a live show on Neil during the tour for "Trans." It's great because you get to see him stomping around stage singing through a vocoder mic that's attached to his dark glasses. Plus, it just rocks. Also, I don't own this, but I saw "The Future Is Unwritten" (Joe Strummer) when it was in theaters and I think it *might* be my favorite music-related doc.
19. Do you like Journey?
- Nah. But I have a special place in my heart for "Don't Stop Believing"
20. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
- "Dead Man"
21. What's the crappiest CD/record/etc. you've ever bought?
- Pearl Jam: Vitalogy. Not because IT'S crappy, but I just remember really not feeling it when I bought it as a kid. I sold it back.
22. Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?
- Vinyl all the way.

 After listening to all those awesome Björk covers songs from Stereogum, I felt inclined to post my own little cover tribute to my favorite singer of all time. In addition, I finally got the day off for the Cursive show next week. The last time I had the opportunity to catch Cursive live, I unfortunately got dragged to see a local band called School for Robots. Lets just say a packed Avalon in Boston with Mastodon, Against Me, and Cursive was probablybetter than 3 people at the Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge with your girlfriends crazy lizard obsessed friend. Nuff said.

It was Rocky Votolato! The folk-blues singer-songwriter from the band Waxwing decided he liked the picture I took of him a few years back (above) and wanted to know if he could use it for his website.  GO SOX! Oh yeah, I'm supposed to be talking about the Saul Williams show I'm attending tonight. Eh, whatever. I just watched Dustin Pedroia slam a line drive past poor Detroit Tigers pitcher Kenny Rogers. So I'm kind of in a good mood today if you can't already tell. Anyway...Saul Williams. He is possibly one of my favorite human beings and I feel quite privileged to catch his full band live act today at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston. He's even from the same part of New York I grew up in (Newburgh, Fishkill). From what I've seen from a few youtube videos of his recent performances, they resemble a cross between Prince and Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest fame. He also seems passionate about his new material, which is always good. His cover of U2's Sunday Blood Sunday is a mix of industrial beats and spoken word...and it sounds brilliant. If you haven't heard of Saul or read any of his books. Go buy Said The Shotgun To The Head right now. It will change your life...
